HAVEN

The contractor had warned the homeowners about the number of decisions they’d need to make. As the homeowner said, “Anybody who has 1,001 decisions to make can easily make poor decisions simply because they may not even know the right questions to ask.” They were overwhelmed — they had a vision for a forever home that would be their haven in the country, but they needed help making it a reality. They wanted to make sure they didn’t make decisions they’d regret forever.

IN THE COUNTRY

After helping the homeowners establish a clear plan that ensured their vision would come to life and their home would support them long-term, I worked with the contractor to make the building process as smooth as possible.

When issues popped up, we collaborated to find the solution that would be functional and aesthetically pleasing.

THE STORY

When I first met the homeowners, they had just begun construction on their custom new-build home. I was immediately struck by their energy, enthusiasm, and sense of adventure. No quiet, staid retirement for these two! Instead, they spent their time exploring new hobbies, learning new musical instruments, studying new languages, and traveling the world.

They had a strong vision and a solid set of plans, but as construction got underway, reality set in. Their contractor warned them about the thousands of decisions ahead, and they quickly realized just how overwhelming the process could be. It wasn’t just about picking materials—it was about making sure they were asking the right questions in the first place. They wanted an expert to guide them, someone who could make the process smooth, strategic, and maybe even a little fun.

A Smart, Strategic Start

We kicked things off with a True Measure Strategy Session, where I got to know them, their lifestyle, and how their home needed to work for them—both now and in the years to come. They wanted a “haven in the country,” a cozy and functional home base where they could recharge between travels, soak in the views, dive into their ever-growing book collection, experiment with new recipes, and showcase meaningful art. Their high-energy pup was also a big part of the equation, so we made sure she’d have a home that worked for her, too.

With those details in mind, I moved into Strong Foundation Project Planning to refine their existing plans. I looked at their layout with a focus on long-term ease of use—ensuring doorways were wide enough, stairs could accommodate a future lift, and grab bars could be seamlessly added down the road if needed. The goal? A home that felt effortless and welcoming now, while staying adaptable for the future.

Problem-Solving in Real Time

No matter how well you plan, construction always throws a few curveballs. One of the unexpected hiccups? How and where to transition the exterior stone at the patio. Without a thoughtful approach, the break could have looked awkward and made construction unnecessarily complicated. Thanks to Steady Build Support, I was right there on-site, working with the contractor to come up with a solution that was both beautiful and builder-friendly. The homeowners loved it, the contractor appreciated the streamlined approach, and everyone moved forward without a hitch.

Beyond troubleshooting, my job was to keep decision fatigue at bay. I tracked every decision that needed to be made so nothing slipped through the cracks. I streamlined the process, helped them narrow their options, and made sure they felt confident in their choices—no second-guessing, no overwhelm.

Keeping Communication Clear and Easy

With so many moving pieces, Clear Line Communication was key. I made sure the homeowners, contractor, and vendors stayed in sync through regular check-ins, structured updates, and well-organized FF&E schedules and tear sheets. Clear documentation meant fewer questions, fewer headaches, and a whole lot less stress.

A Home That Feels Like Theirs

By the time the last box was unpacked, the homeowners couldn’t wait to settle in and start this next chapter. More than once, they told me how grateful they were for my guidance—how much easier and more enjoyable the process had been with a clear plan and structured support. Their builder was just as appreciative, recognizing how much smoother the project ran thanks to clear communication and thoughtful decision-making.

At the end of the day, this project was about more than just a beautiful home—it was about creating a space that truly fit the homeowners' adventurous, ever-curious lifestyle. And with the right strategy, guidance, and communication, even the most complex projects can feel seamless.
